After carefully transporting the very top-heavy unit home and safely attaching it to the floor the electrical connections were made using 6' of 8 gauge wire. The breaker was turned on and instead of a nice new compressor sound, there was a bright flash and lots of smoke. Bad electric motor. Ingersoll Rand customer service received a call from me the next day. The customer service rep answered quickly, did not make me wait on hold, asked only a few questions and cheerfully shipped me a replacement motor which arrived in 2 days. It was easy to replace and the compressor is now working properly.Bottom line... Bad things happen. ReamsGreat buy.Pumps up quick and is fairly quiet.Only thing I would reconmend is before you bolt it to the floor,go to the hardware and get a brass 1/2in. 90 street elbow,12in. 1/2in. straight and a 1/2in. ball valve for the drain on the bottom of the tank.Put the ball valve out in the open so you can drain the tank easy.I did this.I wouldnt even want to try and drain it with that petcock.Also do not buy the start up kit.I did just to find that the kit that was reconmended was for a different model and the air filters wont work with mine,and I found the oil locally was only $6.00 a quart.The kit has 2 pints.See all 10 customer reviews... »» Read more about Ingersoll Rand SS5 5-Horsepower 230-Volt 60-Gallon Vertical Compressor.
